The Grays Harbor Democrats chose Undersheriff Rick Scott to lead the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office during their regular meeting on Thursday.
Sheriff Mike Whelan retired from the office on Oct. 1. And because Whelan was a Democrat, the Democrats were allowed to pick three names to submit for the office. The county commissioners will choose from the list, probably within the next week or two. They have no regular meeting scheduled on Monday because the County Administration Building is closed.
Scott, recently named acting sheriff, was the only serious name offered, according to Grays Harbor Democrat Chair Patrick Wadsworth, who said that three names had to be selected, per state Democratic Party rules. Other names on the list were Deputy Prosecutor Katie Svoboda and Don Norkoski, the Polish Club manager.
