Sex offender registers to live in Aberdeen

The Aberdeen Police department has issued a public notice that a Level 2 sex offender from Colorado has moved into a residence in the 700 block of East First Street.

Police said Nathaniel B. Anderson, 29, was convicted of sexual assault in 2004 in Jefferson County, Colo. He is described as being 6-foot-4, 275 pounds.

Under state law backed by a U.S. Supreme Court decision, law enforcement agencies are authorized to inform the public of the release of a sex offender or kidnapping offender “when the release of information will enhance public safety and protection.”

While local police jurisdictions are prevented from directing where offenders choose to live, the offenders must register their address when released from custody.

The bulletin on Anderson said he has a “high risk to re-offend.”

There are approximately 400 offenders registered to Grays Harbor County addresses, the bulletin said, and about 100 are registered to addresses within Aberdeen city limits.
