What initial reports described as a paintball fight at the Elma Shell Station Saturday afternoon apparently sent a man to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Elma Police Chief Jeff Troumbley said officers were still conducting interviews and gathering evidence Saturday night, but one man was in custody. Other people may have been involved.
Elma Police started getting calls just before 2 p.m. Saturday about two people shooting paintballs at each other at the Shell station on 3rd Street, but soon after that there was a report of a gunshot victim at Summit Pacific Medical Center. The victim, a 26-year-old homeless man, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition.
Officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Montesano Police, McCleary Police, the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene. Detectives from the Grays Harbor County Multi-Agency Task Force are helping in the ongoing investigation.
