Stevens awarded grant to be “lighthouse” school

Stevens Elementary School in the Aberdeen school district has been awarded a $19,000 grant and will serve along with five other schools as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math mentors to other schools in the state.

Known as a “Lighthouse” school, the six schools and one school district will use the grants to promote and develop STEM education, including technical assistance and advice for other elementary, middle and high schools that are creating their own STEM environments.

“These Lighthouse schools are doing great things for STEM education,” said Randy Dorn, state schools superintendent, in a press release. “The work they do will benefit classrooms across the state.”
