Tall ships to return to the Harbor

Aberdeen’s two tall ships will return to Grays Harbor in September for some scheduled maintenance.

The Lady Washington will arrive Sept. 5 for a complete replacement of electrical systems, which should be completed by Sept. 30. The Hawaiian Chieftain will arrive Sept. 18 for a U.S. Coast Guard inspection after receiving maintenance in Port Townsend from Sept. 4 through 15.

After inspections, the Hawaiian Chieftain will be open to the public from Sept. 21 through 22 and Sept. 28 through 29 for walk-on tours and adventure sails. Walk-on tours will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and cost $3 per person. Adventure sails, which include maritime stories and a chance to help sail the boat, take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m and cost $39 per person.

The ship will also be open for walk-on tours Oct. 1 through Oct. 4 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. To purchase tickets for an adventure sail, visit www.historicalseaport.org or call 800-200-5239. No reservations are needed for walk-on tours.
