Thurston County judge agrees to stay GH judges’ lawsuit

OLYMPIA — A Thurston County judge has agreed to a motion staying a lawsuit brought about by the Grays Harbor Superior Court judges against the county, largely over budget concerns.

Both the judges and the county commissioners agreed that it would be a good idea to hold off on any kind of litigation, n oting that Incumbent Commissioners Terry Willis and Mike Wilson both lost their re-election bids and will be replaced come January with Commissioner-Elect Wes Cormier and Commissioner-Elect Frank Gordon. There’s hope that a settlement can be reached soon.

Both sides have also asked the state Supreme Court to hold off on its deadlines for briefs for 30 days until Jan. 18. The county commissioners had filed an appeal with the state Supreme Court to disqualify every sitting superior court judge from hearing the case.

Thurston Superior Court Judge Chris Wickham agreed to the order delaying all of the lawsuit proceedings pending the state Supreme Court’s decision on the disqualification issue or April 1, 2013, whichever comes first.
