TOP Foods’ ground beef recalled for E. coli

Haggen, Inc. issued a recall Thursday for ground beef sold at several Haggen and TOP Food & Drug stores, including the one in Aberdeen. A sample from the supplier tested positive for E. coli.

The recall is limited to 97 percent lean ground beef sold under the NatureSource label with a use by/freeze by date of Aug. 7. It was sold in the TOP Food stores in Aberdeen and Olympia, as well as Haggen stores in Snohomish and Oregon City, Ore.

The meat comes from National Beef Packing Company, which issued a national recall of about 50,100 pounds of ground beef because of the sample test.

Any opened or unopened products included in the recall should not be consumed, and should be returned to the local retailer for a full refund.

Consumers who have questions about the recall may contact Haggen at 1-360-733-8720 or may contact National Beef’s consumer relations toll free at 1-800-449-BEEF.
