The United Way for Grays Harbor and Pacific County kicks off its 2013-2014 campaign on Thursday Sept. 12, at the Rotary Log Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. with a fundraising cookoff.
Sponsored by Lucky Eagle, the cookoff is free and open to the public. Celebrity chefs will be cooking up a favorite entree, with tastes for everyone.
Local celebrity chefs include Cosmopolis Mayor Vickie Raines, Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson, Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott, Randy Dennis of The Dennis Company, Phil Luce from Grays Harbor Radio, and Rhys Davis and assistant Johnny Manson from Jodesha Broadcasting.
The audience will be the judge of who has created the best entree, crowning them “United Way’s Next Top Chef.” All side dishes and appetizers are being provided by the Lucky Eagle. After sampling the chefs’ creations, the audience will vote on the best dishes by making donations. There will an announcement of the campaign goal and an introduction to this year’s United Way Campaign.
The United Way for Grays Harbor and Pacific County is a locally run organization that has been addressing issues in Grays Harbor for more than 50 years. Stacie Barnum, this year’s Campaign Chairwoman said, “This is going to be a fun event. I am excited about this campaign. As a long time United Way supporter what is important to me is that what is raised locally stays local. The money that United Way raises stays right here in Grays Harbor and Pacific County and addresses local issues.”
