A vacant Aberdeen home was a total loss after a fire Saturday, Aberdeen Fire Department Battalion Chief Troy Palmer said. The cause is unknown but neighbors said the house had been vacant for years and was unsecured.
Firefighters arrived at the house on the 400 block of E. Curtis Street at 1:35 p.m. and found it fully involved. Firefighters from the Hoquiam Fire Department also responded with a fire engine.
Vegetation had grown thick between the vacant home and a neighbor, and it was extremely dry because of recent weather.
“Our main priority was to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring home,” Palmer said.
Firefighters worked for about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, and no other homes were damaged. The home had been assessed at $26,745.
