The Aberdeen VFW Post raised more than $3,000 Saturday in its first major fundraiser as the post attempts to get funding to make repairs to the roof of its building in downtown Aberdeen.
The Post and the Ladies Auxiliary held a spaghetti feed at the 40 ‘et 8 club in Aberdeen, the temporary meeting place for the post. “’We support our veterans’ is the clear message we heard Saturday from our community,” said Aberdeen VFW Post #224 Commander Jim Daly. “We had a great group of volunteers who worked very hard to serve more than 300 meals, while there were at least three other fundraising dinners going on at the same time.”
“The results exceeded all our wildest expectations,” said Nell Todd, Auxiliary President. “We also held a raffle for several baskets, a 50/50, and four gift certificates donated by local restaurants: Amore, Billy’s, Mazatlan, and Teri’s.”
The post plans other fundraising dinners, the next on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, which will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner, at the Hoquiam VFW on 7th Street.
Those who would like to support the Aberdeen VFW for their building repairs, donations may be made to the special donation account at Anchor Bank or dropped off at the 40 ‘et 8 or the Aberdeen American Legion, or mailed to VFW Post 224, 105 East Heron, Aberdeen, WA 98520.
