Viewpoint at the bluff closed after slide

The state Department of Transportation is keeping the viewpoint on Highway 12 near the bluff closed during the winter in the wake of a major slide that came down during the storm and related flooding recently.

Randy Moody, the maintenance superintendent for DOT in Aberdeen, says that soil samples were taken and the ground appears to have solidified, but the agency doesn’t want to take any chances that future storms and rain my disturb the slope. During rainfall on Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, the slide impacted the railroad bed, the nearby the industrial waterline and the walking trail at Morrison Riverfront Park. The slide has since been cleaned up, Moody said.
