A Hoquiam man hunting for scrap in the mud flats of the Hoquiam River Thursday discovered at least five knives and a variety of drug paraphernalia. In the same area he also found a handgun and what appeared to be some type of grenade, possibly a display item, which he threw deeper into the river hoping to keep children from finding them. Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers said police had collected the weapons and other items, and encouraged anyone who finds dangerous material to contact Grays Harbor E-911 at 533-8765 to have law enforcement safely handle it.
