An 82-year-old woman was awakened early Friday morning by a man rummaging through her night stand, the Hoquiam Police Department reported. The woman fought off the intruder with a lamp.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Chenault Avenue at about 5:45 a.m. Friday for a report of a burglary. The woman reported she was asleep in bed when an intruder woke her, and she yelled at him to get out. She said the man hit her in the face, and she fought back, striking him with a lamp.
He then ran away from the home.

The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported by the Hoquiam Fire Department to Grays Harbor Community Hospital, where she was later released.
