Authorities release names from shooting

OKANOGAN — Investigators this morning released the name of the man who was shot by an Okanogan County sheriff’s deputy in a standoff Thursday near Okanogan, and the name of the Okanogan County sheriff’s deputy who shot him.

Before the two-hour standoff, a 62-year-old Okanogan man was shot dead in a domestic dispute.

Ronald E. Moore, 31, of Okanogan, remained at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. His condition was not available, but he had been in serious condition shortly after the shooting.

The deputy who shot Moore during the standoff is Terry Shrable, said Jason Mathews, chief of special operations for the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office. That department is investigating the incident to avoid conflicts of interest. Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said Shrable has been with the force for eight years.

Investigators say Moore is a suspect in the death of his father, Raymond E. Moore. The elder Moore was shot and killed Thursday night at a residence at 56 East Dry Coulee Road, which is about two miles southwest of Okanogan.

Raymond E. Moore was the owner of First Choice Muffler in Okanogan.

Rogers said someone called 911 at 8:20 p.m. Thursday to report shots fired at the residence. When Okanogan County deputies arrived, they heard gunfire and saw two women running from the house. Deputies were told that a man had been shot inside and his son, who had done the shooting, was still inside.

Deputies called the county’s Special Response Team, which attempted to communicate with the man inside the house for about two hours. About 10:30 p.m., deputies stormed the house, heard shots fired and deputies fired back. The injured man was given emergency first-aid, then was transported to the Omak hospital.

The older man was found dead inside the residence.

Mathews said Chelan County investigators interviewed Shrable on Monday and will forward the results of that interview to the Okanogan County prosecutor. Officials in the prosecutor’s office said Chelan County investigators filed paperwork on Ronald Moore with their office Monday but charges have not yet been filed.
