Bill allowing beer, wine in theaters progresses

Legislation that would legalize the sale of wine and beer in movie theaters will face the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor Friday morning.

A version of House bill, prime sponsored by Rep. Jim Moeller, D-Vancouver, passed the House 90 to 4 on March 5. The original bill in January was amended to create tighter regulations, intended to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors.

John Schweiger, the owner, president and CEO of Coming Attractions Theaters, the parent company of Midway Cinema, earlier this month told The Chronicle he is “extremely interested” in the possibility of serving alcohol at his Chehalis theater.
