FEDERAL WAY (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says a driver pulled a passenger from a burning car after an early morning crash on Interstate 5 in Federal Way.
The car was fully engulfed in flames in the median of southbound I-5 when the call came in to the State Patrol around 4 a.m.
Troopers believe a BMW struck the concrete junction box and a sign support column and caught fire. The driver, a 21-year-old Fort Lewis man, suffered injuries to his legs in the crash but was able to get himself out of the burning vehicle and remove his passenger, a 29 year old woman, before the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she is being treated for severe internal injuries.
Troopers say the driver whom has been arrested for vehicular assault and taken to another hospital.
