He had a hammer and chased naked man in Fife

It started with an online advertisement for a back rub and ended with a man with a hammer chasing a naked man out of a Fife motel room.

Police said it was the work of a husband and wife team that lures men to motels to rob them.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Floyd Hutchins, 40, with second-degree robbery, attempted robbery and second-degree promotion of prostitution.

His wife, Michelle Hutchins, 37, was charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree attempted robbery. Both pleaded not guilty.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Floyd Hutchins and $25,000 for Michelle Hutchins.

Charging documents gave this account:

A man called police Jan. 13 to report that he had been about to have sex with a woman when a man broke into their motel room, grabbed a hammer off the table and began yelling at the woman.

“Victim … was terrified but … noted that the woman he was with did not seem surprised,” documents state.

The man fled the room naked and later contacted police. He initially said he’d known the woman, but later admitted he’d found an ad on Backpage.com and offered her $100 for sex.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage at the motel in the 3500 block of Pacific Highway East and saw Floyd Hutchins pacing outside the room before using a key card to go inside.

The second man came running out a minute later. His clothing later was found in the motel room and a nearby trash can.

The man, Eric Bakke, was charged with patronizing a prostitute, patronizing by computer means and making a false statement to a public servant.

Police tried to reach the Hutchinses but had no luck. After scanning ads on Backpage.com, they found one believed put up by Michelle Hutchins. An undercover detective arranged to meet her at a motel room Jan. 18.

She was arrested without incident when she walked into the room.

When Floyd Hutchins showed up outside the motel room door, he was taken into custody. He was carrying a large folding knife, police said.

Floyd Hutchins later admitted posting ads depicting him and his wife in sexual poses soliciting sex for money.

Michelle Hutchins insisted she only massaged men and did not prostitute herself.
