Kilmer, House leader meeting with local federal employees

BREMERTON — U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, will be joined by House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer on Tuesday for a round-table discussion with representatives of area workers who will be impacted by across-the-board cuts known as the sequester. Hoyer, of Maryland, is the second-ranking member of the House’s Democratic leadership.

The congressmen will speak with labor leaders and federal employees, including workers from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport and Naval Hospital Bremerton.

As House Democratic whip, Hoyer is charged with mobilizing the party vote on important legislation, acting as a liaison between members and the Democratic leadership, and coordinating strategy within the caucus. He also plays a key role in shaping House Democrats’ legislative priorities and in delivering the Democratic message.

The meeting will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Norm Dicks Government Center.
