Kristiansen selected as new state House leader

State House Republicans unanimously selected Rep. Dan Kristiansen, R-Snohomish, as their leader Saturday. Kristiansen replaces Rep. Richard DeBolt, who stepped down April 17 due to health concerns.

Kristiansen represents the 39th Legislative District, which covers eastern Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish and King counties.

Skagit County communities in that area include Big Lake, Concrete, Hamilton, Lyman, Marblemount and Sedro-Woolley.

Kristiansen was first elected to the state House in 2002.

The Legislature adjourned its 105-day session Sunday without coming to agreement on a new two-year budget. Gov. Jay Inslee called legislators to return May 13 to complete work on the budget.

Inslee said he wanted lawmakers also to address some policy issues that stalled in the Legislature, including laws on gun violence, a transportation funding package and new rules related to abortion insurance.
