Booth Gardner’s memorial service today is open to the public.

The former Washington governor, who died March 15 at his Tacoma home, will be remembered by family and friends at the University of Puget Sound’s Memorial Fieldhouse, which opens to the public at 10 a.m. Enter on North 11th Street just off Union Avenue. There is no charge for parking in nearby lots.

Organizers said the Rev. David Alger will officiate and Gov. Jay Inslee will present the flags that were flown at half staff on the state Capitol campus in Gardner’s honor. Former Gov. Chris Gregoire and U.S. Rep. Denny Heck, who both worked for Gardner, will speak.

The TVW public-affairs network, channel 23 in most of Western Washington, will provide live coverage.
