Rockslide closes Highway 101 west of Port Angeles
/Workers were trying to stabilize a rocky hillside on Highway 101 in Olympic National Park when a rockslide prompted closure of the stretch of highway along Lake Crescent about 15 miles west of Port Angeles.
Park spokeswoman Rainey McKenna says two men suffered minor injuries and an excavator was damaged by the falling rocks Wednesday.
McKenna says the highway will stay closed pending an assessment by a geotechnical engineer.
Meanwhile traffic is being detoured on Highways 112 and 113.
McKenna says the hillside stabilization work started at the beginning of the month. Recent heavy rain may have triggered the rockslide.
