Skyline Drive-in may end season early

Skyline Drive-in Theater near Shelton may need to wrap up its season early due to storm damage. Lightning recently struck a power pole and destroyed all three transformers for the drive-in, according to a statement on its Web site, causing thousands in damage.

“Despite having surge protection in place and an uninterrupted power supply, the projector was still damaged,” the statement said.

Company officials expect to know by today if they will be able to reopen the drive-in for the rest of the season, according to Skyline’s Facebook page. It has been closed since the lightning strike on Sept. 5.

In May, Skyline raised $40,055 from more than 500 backers through the fundraising Web site Kickstarter to purchase its new digital projector. Here’s a story The Olympian ran about the effort: http://www.theolympian.com/2013/05/13/2542970/hollywood-ending-for-drive....

The Skyline opened in 1964, and is one of only a handful of drive-in theaters that still operate in the state.
