Deputies have arrested a man for allegedly hitting a 17-year-old boy in Hazel Dell Thursday night before fleeing the crash scene.
Shawn Jacobus Ham, 23, faces a felony charge of hit-and-run after he reportedly hit the boy in the 10200 block of Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue at about 10:15 p.m., according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
A passerby reported the crash after hearing a noise and finding the teen in the middle of the road, Sgt. K.C. Kasberg said.
Ham was behind the wheel of the vehicle that reportedly struck the boy, who was a pedestrian, and fled the scene immediately after the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
Kasberg did not have information on where the boy was in relation to the street. The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
A short time after the crash, deputies found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in a driveway near the crash scene.
Investigators said they believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
