Troopers say stolen vehicle pursuit on I-5 reached 120 mph

A man troopers say was driving a stolen vehicle reached speeds of 120 mph on I-5 in the South Sound Sunday morning as they pursued him, according to the State Patrol.

The chase ended safely with the driver, a 24-year-old Vader, Wash. man, taken into custody, trooper Guy Gill said.

Gill gave this account of the pursuit:

Troopers started following a silver Toyota Camry that had been stolen out of Centralia, when they saw the vehicle just before 11 a.m. at northbound I-5 and state Route 512.

The State Patrol set spike strips that hit the vehicle at South 38th Street and I-5, and troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop the car on the freeway just north of 70th Ave E in Fife, about 10 minutes after the chase began.

The driver was arrested without incident, Gill said.
