Albert T. “Sonny” Beck


Albert T. “Sonny” Beck, 75 years of age and a resident of Humptulips for the past 50 years, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at his home in Humptulips, Washington. Sonny was born on September 8, 1937, in Franklin, North Carolina to Merritt W. and Julia (Watson) Beck. He resided in Franklin until he was 15, when he and his brother moved to Quinault, Washington.

Sonny was married to Joan Johnson on November 22, 1958, in Hoquiam, Washington. They made their home at Humptulips.

He had driven log trucks and was then a mechanic at the ITT Rayonier Crane Creek Shop at Amanda Park. In 1986, he became the mechanic/manager at the Quinault Garage and retired from there in March of 2004.

Sonny and Joan had frequently traveled to North Carolina and Cannon Beach, Oregon. In 2005, the couple made a “loop” road trip to 27 states.

Sonny was one of the original charter members of the Push Rods that was formed in the 1950’s. He loved to take a short walk to his favorite fishing spot at the Humptulips River. He enjoyed restoring his immaculate classic cars that he entered into numerous car shows.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Joan Beck of the Humptulips family home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Mark Donaldson of Eagle, Idaho and Michelle and Dave Morrison of Quinault; three sisters, Mildred Dills and Ruth Corey of Franklin, North Carolina and Leota Wilkes of McKinleyville, California; thirteen grandchildren, Jeffery, Juliann, Joshua, Andrea, Makayla, Alyssa, David, Destiny, Christen, Brandon, Sierra, Danny and Wesley; two great grandchildren, Timothy and Megan; a special niece and her husband, Glennis and Mike Stamon of Hoquiam and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merritt Beck and Glenn Beck; and a sister, Beatrice Hammack.

The family requests donations be sent to the charity of the person’s choice.

A graveside service with vault interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Quinault Cemetery at Quinault, Washington with Rev. W. Kent Gravley officiating.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
