Alice Augusta Espedal, 97 years of age and a longtime Harborite, died on Friday, November 23, 2012, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Washington. She was born on April 19, 1915, at the family home in Aberdeen, Washington to Leo and Augusta (Ladwig) Hoder.
She attended McDermoth Elementary School and graduated from Weatherwax High School. She next attended the Grays Harbor Business College on Market Street for a year. She then worked at the Grays Harbor Paper Mill in Hoquiam for a short time.
In 1935, Alice Hoder was married to Torstein Espedal.
Alice attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was a member of their ladies aide group. She belonged to the PTA when her son was in school.
Her travels had taken her to California to visit relatives and see the beauty of the country. She will be remembered by family and friends as being an excellent cook.
Alice is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Anne Espedal of Aberdeen; one sister, Ann Jelovich of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Ronnie Espedal (Lisa) of Hoquiam and Jim Espedal of Tumwater; two great-grandchildren, Ronnie Espedal, III and Ryan Espedal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Torstein Espedal; and a brother, Leo Hoder.
There will be no formal funeral services. Private inurnment will be held later in the Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.
