Longtime Montesano resident Alice Evelene Grove Louthan, 97, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 5, 1915, in Holdrege, Nebraska to Elijah and Alma (Anderson) Grove.
She graduated from Holdrege High School in 1932. On September 5, 1935, she married Elmer Louthan in Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed away in 2006.
Evelene and Elmer farmed in Nebraska and moved to Aberdeen, Washington in 1937. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church; where she worked with the Sunday School as teacher and superintendent.
In 1951, they moved to Montesano where she was active in the PTA, serving as County Council PTA President. They joined the Methodist Church and she was active in the Sunday School there.
She is survived by her loving children, Joyce (Steve) McCowan of Satsop and Leslie (Yvonne) Louthan of Montesano; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Elmer; Evelene is preceded in death by her two sons, Lawrence passed away in 1956 and Jerry passed away in 2006.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Masonic Cemetery in Elma
