Barbara Mitchell, 86, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2013, in Bellevue. She was born June 15, 1927, in Hoquiam to Kenward Errol and Ethel May (Mourant) Ross. She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1945 and attended the University of Washington, majoring in English and Art History while pledging as a Tri Delta, like her mother.
She married Frederick Mitchell in 1951, whom she later divorced. Throughout her career as a secretary, she worked for the City of Seattle and the University of Washington Graduate School.
Barbara loved doing crossword puzzles and playing the piano, was an avid reader and a staunch Democrat.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Philip Kenward Ross. She is survived by her three children, William Mitchell and his partner, Richard Mohan of Seattle, Barbara Jo (Michael) Connolly of Sammamish, and Scott (Janet) Mitchell of Bonney Lake; her sister, Patricia Haarstad of Chesterfield, N.J.; sister-in-law, Eileen Ross of Seattle; three grandchildren, Joseph (Megan) Connolly and Brandon and Thomas Mitchell; and one great-grandchild.
