Bertha Frances Carlsen


Bertha Frances Carlsen, 85 years young, of Elma, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in her home.

Mrs. Carlsen was born Bertha Frances Decker on June 3, 1927, in Elma to Herbert Frederick Decker and Mary Helen McNearney.

She was married to Ted Arthur Carlsen on November 15, 1973, and she lost her beloved husband on December 5, 1994.

She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary for 51 years, starting out in Hoquiam and transferring to the Elma Eagles #1440. She was a very active member with the Children’s Christmas Party and a member of the Elma Eagles Riders. She was also a member of the Red Hats, lifetime member of VFW and the Home Garden Club.

Her other interests included hunting, fishing, canning, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, singing, dancing and she played a mean game of pool.

Bertha is survived by her two daughters from previous marriages, Carmen E. (Haskell) Seaman of Chehalis, Wash., MaryAnna (Kathy Petty) McCabe of Shelton, Wash.; her son, Harry A. Haskell of Laramie, Wyo.; sister, Geneva Healy of Auburn, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted; her brothers, Thomas and Francis Decker; her sister, Freda (Decker) Gardner; and her grandson, Brian Caudill.

A graveside service is to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Wynoochee Cemetery in Montesano, Wash. A procession to the cemetery will leave from the Elma Eagles at 1:00 p.m. and a reception after the service will be held at the Eagles.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Elma Children’s Christmas Party Fund.
