Betty Kuhlmann Deymonaz, 81 years of age, a resident of Grayland, Washington, for the past 20 years, died on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was born on October 18, 1931, in Oriska, North Dakota to C.B. and Mary McCann. She grew up in North Dakota and California.
Betty will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul whose generosity and love touched all she met. Love you heaps, Mom.
On September 14, 1950, she married Dorhn Kuhlmann in Wimbledon, North Dakota. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1987.
Betty attended college, earned her teaching certificate and later became an outstanding nurse’s assistant. She was an important part of the Burn Unit team at Valley General Hospital in Renton, Washington. She also cared for numerous foster children.
Betty Kuhlmann was married to Leon Deymonaz on January 20, 1990, in Renton. He died on November 29, 2009, also in Olympia.
She attended Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Renton and Saint Paul Catholic Church in Westport, Washington. She was locally known as the “Quilt Lady of Grayland” having made thousands of quilts for various churches, local community events and worldwide needs.
Her home was always open to her family and their friends, she never knew how many people there would be for dinner. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes including many wedding cakes. In her spare time she could be found reading or playing cards.
Betty is survived by her sons, David (ChayLim Son) Kuhlmann, Don (Dielda) Kuhlmann, and Doug (Gail) Kuhlmann; her daughters, Margaret (Don) Guymon, Debbie Suver, Ginny (Randy) Walls and Karen Kissler; her three step-sons, Richard, Robert and Eugene Deymonaz.; her brothers, Leroy McCann and Robert McCann; her sisters, Barbara Huber and Donna Gainsforth; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice or to the St. Paul Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
A Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the St. Paul Catholic Church, 833 SR 105 in Westport, Washington 98595. A reception for family and friends will be in the church social hall following the Mass.
A graveside service of inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Renton, Washington, followed by a reception at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1024 Monroe Ave. N.E. Renton, Washington 98056.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
