Betty Prante Ortquist, 86, of Satsop, Washington, passed away at her home, with her family at her side, on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
Betty was born on May 9, 1927, at Elma, Washington, to Robert and Anna (Rogers) Prante. She attended Satsop Grade School and graduated from Elma High School in 1945. In 1963, she married Harold Ortquist in Hawaii. Together they have a son, Michael Hal Ortquist. She spent the last 50 years at her home near Satsop, two miles from where she grew up.
In earlier years, she taught ceramics, enjoyed commercial clam digging, china painting, and owned and operated the Satsop Grocery. In later years, she collected antiques including sad-irons and flat-irons, but her greatest joy of all was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Mooney) Ortquist of Satsop and husband, Lee, and their children, Lisa and Eric; son, David Mooney of Elma and his children, Christy, Kelly and Scott; son, Hal Ortquist of Satsop and his children, Trista, Mikaela, and Bethany, and their mother, Cindy; stepson, Fred Ortquist of McCeary and wife, Alice, and their children, Teri and Leslie; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Alvin Prante of Netarts Bay, Ore.
Besides her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Harold Ortquist; a sister, Phyllis Rayment of Kingston, Wash. and a brother, Nolan Prante, of Satsop.
A private family graveside service will be held. Donations can be made to the Satsop Methodist Church, P.O. Box 55, Satsop, WA 98583 or the charity of your choice.
