Early Wednesday morning, September 5, 2012, Brian Matthews passed away graciously as he was embraced by his loving daughter, Jonni Anderson. He had been battling liver cancer. He had found out that he had three small tumors on his liver about a year and a half ago.
Brian was in the comfort of his own home in Ocean Shores. Even though he lived in Ocean Shores his heart was always in Seattle. That was his true home. That is where he met the love of his life, Marcy Morin and that is where he adopted Marcy and her family. He had spent some time living in Anchorage, Alaska and Yakima.
Brian was a strong believer in Buddhism and practiced it daily. He loved collecting coins, classical music, the Beatles and talking about politics. But most of all, he loved reminiscing about the good times he had.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Wesley and Mary (Chapman) Matthews; a daughter, Denise Lopez; and the love of his life Marcy Morin. He leaves behind a large family, including one sister, Kelly Moulton; four children, Jonnie Anderson, Vincent Mong, Sonciree Mong and Les Mong; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He will be missed very much, not just by his family, but also by his many friends.
There will be a celebration of life for Brian and Marcy at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the Eastlake Zoo Tavern then will proceed to Volunteer Park in Seattle.
