After losing her battle with cancer, Carol Jean Nelson died on April 4, 2013, surrounded by her family and friends in Lafayette, Oregon.
Carol was born June 14, 1947, in Valley City, North Dakota to Daniel S. and Carrie McDonald. They later moved to Washington State. Carol graduated from Willapa Valley High School.
Carol had four children with John Bates and they settled in Yamhill, Oregon.
Carol had many different careers, but was most passionate when cooking or taking care of people. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, outdoor activities and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She loved to entertain and cook for large groups of family and friends, most importantly at their annual “Fish Fry”.
Carol is survived by her life partner, Gene Conder; her mother, Carrie McDonald; step-mother, June McDonald; sister, Karen Hodel; brothers, LeRoy and Daniel S. “Butch” McDonald; children, John H. Bates III, Marcia Chenea, Patricia (BJ) Elliott, Matthew (Heather) Bates, Trevor (Thelma) Conder, Tiffany (Michael) Ripley; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel S. McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 13, 2013, at the Lebam Community Church, 2336 St. Route 6, Lebam, Wa 98554 with burial to follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lebam. Funeral Arrangements are under the care of Stoller’s Mortuary, Raymond, WA.
