Carol Mae “Ruth” Wallace Granstrom was born to William and Clara Mae Little Granstrom in a cabin outside of Fairbanks, Alaska on August 22, 1915. She passed away in Aberdeen, Washington on November 9, 2012, at the age of 97.
Carol’s family moved to Seattle where her father was a U.S. Customs Agent and then to Skagway, Alaska where her father was the U.S. Marshall. Carol met Elmer Granstrom in Skagway, where they were married on August 7, 1931. They had a daughter, Carol Marie, who was born in Skagway in 1933. In 1936, they moved to Hoquiam, Washington where their son, Duane, was born in 1938.
For many years, Carol worked in the local canneries where she had many friends. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles and bingo. She also enjoyed camping, hiking and fishing with her family. They spent many weekends on the Hoh River.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1983; her daughter, Carol Mason; her parents; three brothers, Earl, Jesse and Bill Wallace; and her granddaughter, Jeri Lynn Holcomb.
She is survived by her son, Duane (Carolyn) Granstrom; her grandchildren, Kim (Patrick) Walker, Jeff Granstrom, Craig (Shelly) Granstrom, Don (Marsha) mason; sever great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her son in law, Doug (Nona) Mason.
At her request no service will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Forest Funeral Home in Olympia. Remembrances can be made in her name to PAWS.
