Charles George Ragus died on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at his home in Hoodsport, following an extended illness.
Charlie was born October 23, 1933, in Aberdeen, Washington, to George M. Ragus and Mary (Lonac) Ragus.
He attended schools in Aberdeen graduating from J.M. Weatherwax High School in 1951 where he was active in football, baseball, track, clubs and activities, known by his nickname “Duck”. He attended Grays Harbor Community College where he was a yell duke. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Army and spent time stationed in Germany as a Private First Class Medic. His working career was with Weyerhaeuser retiring after 30 years managing several sort yards.
Throughout his life Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snow skiing, clam digging, crab and shrimp fishing, reading, traveling (especially Hawaii) and gatherings with the Lake Quinault Derelict Club. He loved spending time with family at the beach house in Tokeland and at home on Hood Canal.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of twenty-seven years, Colleen (Hanrahan) Ragus at their home in Hoodsport; their children, DeAnne Ragus Bair of Aberdeen, Lauri Ragus of Graham, Julie (Bill) Zwarun of Elma, Bruce (Shirley) Urquhart of Tokeland, Terri (Ken) Van Buren of Tacoma, Randy (Lauren) Urquhart of Poulsbo, Jay Urquhart of Arizona; grandchildren, Grant, Alexandra, Sam, Jake, Matt, Sarah, Ben, Michael, Andrew, Josh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Stella (Lalla) McNutt.
He was loved and will be missed.
