Charles Thomas Landis was born December 20, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio. His parents were George William Landis and Julia Anne Hamilton.
Charles served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years and retired from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. in 1962 attaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was a World War II veteran and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Pearl Harbor in 1944, and served twelve years on various submarines around the world, including four years on the USS Baya, a research and scientific submarine, reworked to test NORAD long- range sonar.
His second career was computer programming in the banking industry until retirement in 1983. After retirement he resided in Ocean Shores and Olympia WA. He enjoyed sailing, vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, and spending time with family and friends.
Charles married Shirley Rohrbaugh on January 2, 2000, and they lived in Shelton for 13 years. Charles passed away on October 5, 2013 at the age of 89.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Williamson; his first wife of 51 years, Joanne Marie Milenius; and his son, Mark Landis.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Landis of Shelton, Wash.; his son, Gregory Landis (Diana), and his daughter, Cheryl Landis all of Olympia, Wash.; and his daughter-in-law, Debbie Lay Landis of Bothell, Wash.; four step-daughters, Barbara Brown (Don) of Wellington, Colo., Valerie Skidmore (Dave) of Union, Wash., Karen Schultz (Eddie) of Peterson, Iowa, and Lori Rohrbaugh of Wellington, Colo.; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
