Daniel Bruce Johannes passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home in Hoquiam. Dan was born on August 14, 1956, in Aberdeen to Larry and Joan (Hubble) Johannes.
He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1974, and went on to attend Grays Harbor College. Dan worked at ITT Rayonier, Pattison-O’Connor, Spradlin Logging, Vessey and sons, and MacMillan and Company.
Dan loved to water ski which he learned at his family’s summer cabin on Lake Nahwatzel. He won several competitions and was proud to say he could ski barefoot. He also enjoyed duck hunting, slow-pitch, camping and his 1964 Chevelle convertible.
A joy in Dan’s life was his dog, Rudy. He loved telling the story of how he found Rudy while working in the woods. Rarely were they seen apart.
Dan is survived by his parents and two sisters, Julie Becker (Jim) of Enumclaw and Suzi Zabiaka (Mike) of Hoquiam. He also leaves behind his nieces, Lauren Rice, JoLee Zabiaka and Alli Zabiaka; and nephew, Anthony Rice.
A celebration of life gathering is being planned and will be announced in a later edition of The Daily World.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
