David Paul Briggs, a 49-year Grays Harbor resident passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013, in Montesano. He was 66. David was born April 1, 1947, in Monterville, West Virginia to George and Iva (Salisbury) Briggs. He grew up and attended school in West Virginia until moving to Montesano in 1964 where he graduated from Montesano High School with the Class of 1965.
David went to work in the woods right out of high school. He worked for Weyerhaueser and retired as a yarder operator after 45 years of employment in 2009.
David married Barbara Jean Gentry in Reno, Nevada in 1984. She survives him at the family home in Montesano. David enjoyed motorcycle riding, classic cars and logging. He was a loving, kindhearted husband, father, grandfather and friend. David will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Barbara; David is survived by his sons, Michael (Gina) Vandiver and Shawn Rieland of Montesano; and his daughter, Kayla Briggs, also of Montesano. He is also survived by 5 grandsons, Zachary Vandiver, Wes Vandiver, Bryson Ford, Dillon Ford and Cadence Vandiver. He is also survived by his brother, Rodney (Linda) Briggs of Montesano; sister, Bobbi Girard of Wenatchee; sister-in-law, Billie Briggs of Olympia; and his dog, “Trigger Briggs”; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, George and Iva; brothers, Jack, Roscoe, Alton and George; and his sister, Geri Hamie Ferrier.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice. A potluck will be held in his honor at the Olympic View Grange in Brady, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
