Dixie Lee (Garrison) John of Ketchikan, Alaska departed this life in Bremerton, Washington on December 13, 2012. Dixie was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on March 24, 1964, to Kim and Peggy Garrison.
Dixie attended school in Lake Quinault, Washington from grade school through her sophomore year of high school. The Garrison family moved to Whale Pass, Alaska in 1980 where Dixie completed high school and graduated from Whale Pass High School.
Helping and doing for others was a natural state for Dixie. She loved people and her good nature and infectious laughter made her a delight to be around. Whether styling hair at Shear Magic, aiding patients at Ketchikan General Hospital as a CNA, unit secretary and pharmacy tech or helping people find their sight at the Ketchikan Eye Care Clinic, Dixie’s career choices reflected the joy she found in being with others. Her greatest happiness however, came from being with her family. She took every opportunity to camp, hike, fish or just take a Sunday drive with her loved ones. Every holiday a person could expect Dixie’s home to be filled with warmth and decorated to the fullest. In 2000 Dixie married Richard John Jr. She was adopted into the Eagle Clan by Alma Cook and embraced her adoptive heritage. Together with her husband, they have been raising their granddaughter, Cashlie. Dixie’s grandchildren were her greatest joy. Dixie loved the Lord and the testimony of His work in her life spoke to many. In every aspect of life, Dixie displayed her heart, humor and kind energy. Dixie had a spirit that could not be quelled, not even in the face of terminal illness. Dixie’s love for her family was evident by the numerous members of her family that surrounded and held her in love as she passed onto her next great adventure.
Dixie was preceded in death by her father, Kim Garrison. She is survived by her husband, Richard John Jr. of Ketchikan, Alaska. Her mother, Peggy Garrison (Lloyd Harshorn) of Plains, Mont. Son, Nathan Garrison (Missy) of Juneau, Alaska. Daughter, Alexis Webb of Dallas, Ore. Sister, Sharon Filyaw of Ketchikan, Alaska. Brother, Ed Garrison ( Marcy) of Bremerton, Wash.
