Donald James Schweitzer, 68, a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. He was born October 22, 1943, in Aberdeen, the son of Joseph Nicolas and Helen (Leiden) Schweitzer. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1961 and went to barber school in Tacoma.
Don served in the Navy in the early 1960s and after his discharge established Don’s Barber Shop in Aberdeen. He retired in 2010.
He married Lorretta M. Downard on Christmas Eve of 1984 at a pastor’s house in Raymond, Wash. They made their home in Aberdeen.
Don belonged to the 40 et 8 in Aberdeen and enjoyed woodworking.
Besides his wife, Lorretta, of the family home; Don is survived by his two sons, Joseph Schweitzer and wife, Felicia, of Aberdeen Wash. and Rick Arthur and wife, Serena, of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Helen Schweitzer-Levee and husband, Darrell, of Spanaway, Wash., Loni Berman and husband, Richard, of Northern Calif. and Kim Berman and husband, Ron, also of Northern Calif.; 2 brothers, Bob Schweitzer of Puyallup and Ed and wife, Susan, Schweitzer of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Susie Zimmerman and husband, Larry, of Hoquiam; and 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A private gathering of family was held at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
