Donald Oliver MacDonald passed away on February 16, 2013. He was born on April 30, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edward Lee and Mary MacDonald. The family moved west in 1926 and settled in Kent, Wash., and he graduated from Kent High School in 1942. In February of 1943 he joined the Merchant Marines, doing his training on Santa Catalina Island, graduating in November 1943. In February 1944, Donald was transferred to the Army as a Technical Operations Officer Harbor Craft and was stationed in New York. He was stationed in occupied Japan from November 1945 through August 1946. He was discharged from the Army as a 1st Lieutenant on October 18, 1946.
Donald went to work at the Aloha Lumber Company in Aloha, Wash. in December 1946 and retired in 1975. He married Patricia Wells in September of 1948 and they had a happy life together for 25 years, before she died in 1973. He owned and operated the Lookout Trailer Court in Ocean City, Wash. from about 1955 to 1980.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents “Mac” and Mary MacDonald; his wife, Pat; his sister, Cynthia; and niece, Candace Knight. He leaves behind his sister, Emily Whalen, and her husband Kenneth; his niece, Kathleen Whalen, and her children, Dusten, Shannon and Shane; and Candace’s sons, Shawn Moline and Brian Woodlard. He also leaves behind his dear friends, Dennis and Bev, who made sure he had whatever he needed.
He will be laid to rest, next to his wife at Washington Memorial Cemetery in SeaTac, Wash. Per Donald’s request, no services will be held. Donations in his name may be made to your favorite charity.
