Donna D. Billings


Donna D. Billings, age 84 and a resident of Grays Harbor for the past 51 years, died on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at her home in Hoquiam with her family at her side.

Donna was born on June 10, 1929, in Niobrara, Nebraska to George F. and Edna M. (Smith) Hagedorn. She was one of eleven children and was the last one surviving. As a child, she and her family moved to Ocean City and then to Walla Walla, Washington. She had attended school in Waitsburg, Washington.

Donna met her husband to be Cecil R. Billings in Walla Walla and there they were married on September 5, 1949. From Walla Walla they lived in Salem, Oregon and then Seattle, Washington before coming to the Harbor in 1962.

She received her certified nurse’s aide certificate from Grays Harbor Community Hospital in 1967 and went to work at the hospital that same year, retiring from there in 1995. Following her retirement she enjoyed going to garage sales, to the casinos and traveling with her friends, Toots and Fred to different places. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Following her husbands death from cancer, she always donated to different cancer funds.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Billings and Diana Hilliard and her wife, Laura; her sons, Donald Billings and David Billings and his wife, Kerri; her grandchildren, Eric Hilliard and his wife, Babe; Dawn Di Franco and her husband, Tony and Nathanial Elgin; and nine great-grandchildren, Kayla Hilliard, Hannah Avery, Tauni Hilliard, Logan Avery, Jamie Di Franco, Jacob Di Franco, Xander Di Franco, Emma Noel and Anthony Avery. Besides her parents, seven brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th and Friday, October 11th.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 12, 2013, in the Coleman Mortuary Chapel with David Gangloff officiating. Concluding services with vault interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.
