Doris Ann Hampton, a lifelong Grays Harbor resident, passed-away on Friday, February 15, 2013, in Olympia at the age of 80. Doris was born on July 24, 1932, in Aberdeen to William Lloyd and Elizabeth Carolina (Hollatz) Thompson. She grew up in Brady and attended Olympic View School in Brady, graduated from Montesano High School in 1950 and went on to attend Grays Harbor College.
Doris married Cecil LeRoy Hampton on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1957, at the Montesano Methodist Parsonage. He survives her at the family home. Doris spent her working life in Montesano. She worked at Reinharts’s Station, Grays Harbor Title Company, Grays Harbor County Clerk’s Office and O.M., Greg and Eric Nelson, Attorney’s at Law.
Doris enjoyed making and teaching ceramics. She also enjoyed bowling, attending athletic events with her granddaughters and trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii. In addition to her husband, Cecil; Doris is survived by her daughter, Debra (Monty) Mattson of Brady; and grandchildren, Shelley (Josh) Trombly of Spokane, Julie (Marcus) Graves of Malone, Laura (Kepa) Salazar of Honolulu, Hawaii and Carl Mattson of Brady; as well as 4 great-grandchildren. Doris is also survived by her brother, William (Lorelei) Thompson of Tacoma and 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Dennis Hampton in 1977 at the age of 23 as a result of an industrial accident. Doris was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Montesano Volunteer Firefighters Association, 310 East Pioneer Ave. Montesano, WA 98563.
Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano.
