Doris Beverly Rhoten, 83 years of age and a longtime Copalis Crossing, Washington area resident, passed away after a brief illness with her family at her side on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington. She was born on October 31, 1929, in Tacoma, Washington to Jerry Edward and Ruth Evelyn (Thornson) Dayton.
She attended schools in Tacoma and graduated from Moclips High School in 1948.
Doris was married to Thomas Rhoten in Tacoma in 1968. They made their home in Copalis Crossing.
She worked her entire adult life, including with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Naval Facility at Pacific Beach and the Copalis Crossing Post Office.
Doris loved to travel with her husband throughout the United States after she retired. Doris was also active in genealogy, reading, ceramics and making her family members beautiful crafted dolls. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed holidays with her family. She was a loving and caring person that will be remembered for her generosity and love.
Doris is survived by her husband, Thomas Rhoten of the family home in Copalis Crossing; her daughters, Lori Shale of Taholah and Debbie Martin (Phillip) of Taholah; her sister, Barbara Chapman of Graham, Washington; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Harry David Shale.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.
