Dorothy Elizabeth Lewis, age 79, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on October 21, 2012, in Hoquiam. Mrs. Lewis was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 8, 1933, to Carl Louis and Agnes (Trefethen) Huss.
After her high school graduation, she began teaching in a one room school house in Fairbury, Nebraska. In 1958, she attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, graduating in 1962 with a degree in education. She then located in Hoquiam where for the next 30 years, she would teach at Washington Elementary School, retiring in 1992.
In 1986, she and Steve Lewis were married. Steve died on March 4, 2006.
Dorothy was a member of the Emblem Club, Beta Sigma Phi, American Legion and Eagles Auxiliaries and the Hoquiam United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and played hand bells.
Dorothy is survived by a sister, Bessie (Huss) Wells of Montesano, Wash.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Lewis; her parents; and a sister, Mrs. Fern Dupuis of Tygh Valley, Ore.
At her request, there will be no service.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
