Dorothy Lucelle Lindsey

Dorothy Lucelle Lindsey, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 1, 2012.

Dorothy was born in North Carolina on tax day, April 15, 1930, to James and Allie Zackery.

They family moved from coal mining to logging in Washington State at Camp Baker at Mount St. Helens. As a young girl the family moved to Kelso. Dorothy attended Kelso Junior/Senior High and graduated in 1948. She was a drum majorette in high school and attended Lower Columbia Junior College for 1 year.

On June 16, 1951, Dorothy married Ted R. Lindsey Jr. and built their first home together in Longview; in 1958 they moved to Cosmopolis. Dorothy and Ted built several homes together including the home that her husband of 61 years, Ted, survives at.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Cecil Simone; her beloved granddaughter, Megan Marie Wood; and sister-in-law, Barbara Zackery. Dorothy was very passionate about her children and is survived by daughters, Pamela Zachery of Seattle and Paula S. Lindsey Dees (Larry) of Olympia; son, Ted R. Lindsey III (Mary Bondurant) of Alaska; brother, Conrad Zackery of Spokane; sister, Sandy Zackery of Long Beach; five grandchildren, Matt Yonich of Centralia, Carrie (Jason) Walters of Seattle, Michael Wood of Florida, Ted R. Lindsey IV (Shara) of Gig Harbor and Brittney F. Lindsey (Aaron Gibbs) of Burien; seven great-grandchildren and one we know is on the way.

Dorothy was very passionate about politics, in a liberal way. After her children were raised she worked at several banks in Aberdeen and sold life insurance for New York Life.

She will be missed by her husband, all that loved her and knew her. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; we love you mom.

Thank you to WestHaven Villa and Pacific Care Center. Donations in memory of Dorothy Lindsey are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
