Edna A. Nelson, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 25, after a short illness. She was born in Aberdeen, Washington, February 17, 1925, to Fannie and Oscar Peltola.
She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1943. On August 27, 1949, she married Harry Nelson. They were married for 64 years and raised three children; Nancy (Walter) Harrison of Yelm; Sharon (Sam) Madsen of Centralia; and son, Harry (Kerri) Nelson of Tenino.
Edna was a 50 plus year member of PEO, belonged to Hoquiam Y-circle T, and was active in Rainbow Girls. She ran Nelson’s Gift Shop in Hoquiam before retiring to their home near Steamboat Island in Olympia. Five years ago she and Harry moved to Yelm.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eino Peltola; her sisters, Esther Ford and Elvie Sanders. She is survived by her husband; three children; grandchildren, Jayme, Jeffrey, Anthony, Alec and Emily; great-grandson, Noah; sister, Eva Aiken; and sister in law, Carol (Joe) Burich; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests donation in Edna’s memory be sent to the American Heart Association.
A memorial service for Edna will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Coleman Mortuary Chapel, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
