Ellen Marie Thomas, age 95, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on September 7, 2013, at Grays Harbor Health & Rehab. Mrs. Thomas was born on January 1, 1918, in Hoquiam to Carl F. and Clara (Falquist) Anderson. She was raised in Hoquiam, attending Emerson Grade School, Hoquiam Jr. High and graduating from Hoquiam High School in 1936.
On July 12, 1941, she and Sylvester Thomas were married. Mr. Thomas died in 1966.
During World War II, she worked as Lambs Grays Harbor making grenades, and later processed fish in the local canneries.
In addition to being an excellent cook, she was an avid Mariner fan, enjoyed going to jazz festivals and working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Richard and Robert Thomas of Hoquiam; and a brother, Elmer Anderson of Hoquiam. She is also survived by numerous relatives in Sweden.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2013, at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
