Emmanuel “Amo” Capoeman

Emmanuel “Amo” Capoeman, 68 years of age and a longtime resident of Taholah, died on April 12, 2013, in Olympia. He was born on October 27, 1943, in Aberdeen, Washington, to Emmanuel “Bubsh” and Thelma Capoeman.

Amo as he like to be called, was a member of the Quinault Indian Nation, lived all his life in Taholah and received his schooling at Taholah and Moclips-Aloha schools. Early in his life he was a logger by trade and a commercial fisherman.

Amo, loved to walk the beaches with two of his best friends, Carol Hayes, and Mary Pulsifer collecting rocks, agates, glass balls and eagle feathers on the reservation beaches. As an avid walker on the Quinault Reservation beaches, he became concerned about erosion and the ever changing environmental structure of the tribal beaches. He was a firm believer in protecting the Eagles and other rare shorebirds. He loved to work on jigsaw puzzles in his spare time and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and of course the Seattle Seahawks.

Amo is survived by his daughter, Candice and his, three granddaughters, Seleana, Alysia, Megan, one grandson, Donnie all of Chewelah, Wash.; two sisters, Edie Capoeman and Pearl Capoeman-Baller (John); brothers, Elmer of Hoquiam, Donald, and Ray, of Taholah; a sister-in-law, Pauline Capoeman of Taholah; nephews, Jason Jackson (Carlina), Eric Capoeman, Jared Capoeman, Christopher Baller (Jackie) and Nikolas Baller (Leah), and a niece, Noreen Underwood (Shane); in addition to numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis, Wesley, and Arnold; his sisters, Gloria and Katie; a son, Donald Capoeman and his parents, Emmanuel and Thelma Capoeman. His brother, Vernon, died on April 13, 2013.

A funeral will be held at the Taholah Gym at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, with a dinner following at the Taholah Community Center.
