Eunice (Smith) Howard

March 29, 1923 - October 8, 2013

Surrounded by her loving family, Aberdeen resident Eunice (Smith) Howard passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had enjoyed 90 years of independent living.

Born in Onalaska, Washington, on March 29, 1923, Eunice was the oldest daughter of James Williard and Purlina Lue (Barnes) Smith. The family moved to Aberdeen while Eunice was in grade school. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1941.

Eunice met the love of her life, William “Bill” Howard, Jr. while attending Aberdeen High School. They married on April 25, 1942, and happily raised four daughters. Following Bill’s passing in 1976, Eunice enjoyed spending time with her friends and co-workers from Ocean Spray Cranberries where she worked for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, concerts at the Puyallup Fair, trips to the casinos and spending time with family.

Eunice lived a well-loved life and is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Richard) Thorne of Kingston, MaryJean Howard of Aberdeen, and Susi (Tom) Harden of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and an extended family that loved her. Her youngest daughter, Karen Howard, preceded her in death last year.

A graveside service for family and friends is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at the Leisure Manor Club House 314 Carefree Circle, Aberdeen.
